Hi folks, I’m Sara. Welcome to my first post! With over 13 years of experience in Big Tech as both a Software Engineer and Technical Program Manager, I’ve had the privilege of navigating through some of the most dynamic and challenging environments in the industry. Along the way, I’ve gathered invaluable insights, faced numerous challenges, and celebrated many successes.
My goal in writing here is to provide you with the knowledge, tools, and inspiration you need to grow in your own career. Whether you’re just starting out or looking to advance to the next level, I hope my experiences can serve as a guide and a source of motivation.
My Background
Although my degree in Economics is considered non-traditional for a Software Engineer in Big Tech, it has provided me with a unique perspective and a set of analytical skills that have proven invaluable in my career. It has equipped me with strong problem-solving abilities, a deep understanding of data analysis, and a strategic mindset, all of which are crucial in the tech industry. I believe that anyone, regardless of their educational background, can acquire the necessary skills to thrive in software engineering.
In my future posts, I’ll share details on my journey and offer practical advice on how you can develop software engineering and project management skills, even if you have a non-traditional degree or no degree at all. Together, we’ll explore various learning resources, self-study tips, and strategies for breaking into the tech world.
Why I’m Writing
I hope sharing both what has gone well and not so well for me will allow you to leverage my learnings so you can spend more time progressing in your career rather than stumbling over the same obstacles and common pitfalls that I’ve dealt with.
As a tech blog reader, I’ve had the pleasure of learning from many of the writers in the industry. Now I’d love to give back and share my experiences and learnings with other readers.
What You’ll Read
My posts will be a combination of coding tutorials aimed at beginners (at least initially), tips and tricks on what makes a successful Software Engineer and Technical Program Manager, navigating politics in the workplace and lessons learned to give perspective when you encounter certain situations along your journey.
I’m excited to embark on this path with you and share the knowledge I’ve accumulated over the years. Thanks for reading and please give me a Follow if you’d like to hear more from me. Let’s learn, grow, and succeed together!
